Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

An effective treatment for sun damage, precancers, and acne is available. PDT uses Levulan, a solution of 20% aminolevulanic acid when applied to the skin greatly enhances the effects of laser/light therapy for sundamage (wrinkles, blotchiness, broken veins and precancers) as well as acne and rosacea.

Super Photorejuvenation

Adding Levulan to standard photorejuvenation, IPL , boosts the treatment providng superior results with half the number of treatments. Texture, color and youthfulness of the skin is restored and the risk of skin cancer seems to be greatly reduced.The technique is simple. The area to be rejuvenated (face, neck, chest, hands are the most commonly treated areas) is cleansed with the Clarisonic Cleansing Brush and a skin prep is performed. Levulan is then applied. The solution is left on for one hour then rinsed and the standard IPL treatment is then done. A few minutes of exposure to blue light (Blu U) completes the treatment. The light activates the Levulan. A sunburn like reaction results and within a few days you will see healthier skin. The cosmetic improvement continues for weeks. Two treatments, one month apart, are recommended for optimal results. Just one treatment a year maintains the beautiful new complexion. (Severe sundamage and precancers may require additional treatments to attain excellent results).

Super Acne Treatment

We have long looked for better ways to treat acne. Mild, moderate and severe cystic acne responds to PDT often without using traditional oral medications. In severe cystic acne this treatment may even give results equal to Accutane. The treatment is similar to the Super Photorejuvenation technique but only the Blu U is used to activate the Levulan when teens are treated. When adult acne is treated and sundamage is also present the use of IPL and Blu U helps to correct both problems. An added benefit is a noticeable improvement in acne scarring for both the teen and the adult.
